Beautiful Stowa movement

If any one knows the finer points as to which is the better watch, or what you prefer, or why one is $1200, and the other is $4800, please make a comment below.
<nerd> D. Dornblueth and Sohn use the same calibre Unitas 6497 manual wind movement as Stowa, but all parts except for the wheel train are modified. The Stowa uses a standard 6497.
Is it worth the difference? It’s down to personal taste. I will say that both companies make exceptionally good watches. </nerd>

Anonymous asked: Favorite watch under $500 ?
I’ve touched on this before here and here…
My personal favourite..?

modernconnoisseurtt asked: thanks for the reply and sir I dribble looking at some of the watches on your blog totally blown! At present I'm willing to invest maximum $600US. I'm a sucker for square or rectangular face watches because they're just different, also drawn to classic watches for their elegance and simplicity, but I'm also drawn to modern wide band watches that you'd see with like fossil watches. I'm sorta all over I guess
Hi again!
So I’m finally getting around to answering some questions! :)
OK so let’s try and find something for you under $600.
What about going vintage?
I found a Stowa like this on eBay for $150, and they come up pretty regularly. Very classic and retro. Stowa are a great brand btw!

.
For something new you could try a Tissot Quadrato…you can pick this up new for $500 or less. Again excellent value, all Swiss Made and set at a very competitive price point.

.
.
If you want something from Fossil, and modern, the one brand of theirs I do kinda like is ‘Zodiac’. Swiss made, and you should be able to pick one up for south of $600 if you shop around.
Here is their ‘Adventure ZMX’ line:

.
.
Hopefully there is something there to catch your eye!
.
Thanks again for your question,
Anish
ilwe asked: Hey Anish, I'm a college student and I've been wanting a watch for a while now. I looked at watches like the IWC Portofino Automatic, Quantieme Perpetuel from Jaquet Droz, and the IWC Portuguese Chronograph, and I love them for their clean and simple look. If I had the money I would buy these watches instantly, but all I have to spend is $500. Is there a quality watch with the look of the watches listed above for that price range?
Hey ilwe,
Sorry for the late reply!
Of course the watches on you ‘want list’ are all beautiful, but unfortunately also very expensive in terms of day-to-day affordability!
Your budget is still pretty decent though, and $500 can go a long way.
I’ve previously touched on the merits of the Tissot Visodate (here), so I’ll look at an alternative now.
Stowa are a German made brand, and frankly for the money their quality is nothing short of staggering!
I believe they only sell directly, which helps them keep RRP’s down, but honestly for $500 you can pick up something like an Antea, which is actually gorgeous, and can be bought in a variety of colours and strap combos!!

.
This one isn’t an Antea, but I’m just putting it up because I like it anyway :)

.
.
In addition, they are owned by Jörg Schauer who makes some even nicer watches (though substantially more expensive) under his own brand name (here).
.
Hope that helps!
Anish :)
