Anonymous asked: That awesome moment when you have great taste in menswear as well as the most beautiful watches in the world. :P
Why thank you… :)

sleeplessgreed asked: Hey Anish, I hope you've been good lately. I was just wondering what your opinion was on Torneau branded watches. Are they any good? Are they respectable? Thanks for your time. Have a good one!
Hey mate!
Sorry it took so long to reply :(
Honestly, Tourneau’s new TNY line is pretty good. I have a particular fondness for the 2 register chronograph version. Can’t say I’ve always felt the same about their own brand models, but I have seen them in the flesh and the finishing and presence is up there with other similarly priced luxury brands for sure.

The price is reasonable, though it can be compared to similar models from ‘bigger’ brands. The automatic time only starts at $1950, the auto GMT at $2350 and the auto chrono at $2950. Apparently the models have been designed by an ex-Panerai designer, which explains why they are probably the nicest Tourneau line to have been released to date imo.
If you can get a good deal on one I would say it’s definitely worth a second look .
Thanks for your question, and let me know if I can help further!

Anonymous asked: my omega seamaster 300m quartz is running slow. it loses about 5-10 seconds every hour or two. should i get it checked out or just deal with it?
Hi Anon,
5-10 seconds every few hours is waaaay too much time to lose for a quartz watch, which will typically gain/lose that amount over a whole month!
It may just need a service. I’d suggest getting it looked at by your local Omega service centre, or even an independent trusted watchmaker if you know one.
Kind regards,
Anish
zkimmmmm asked: for a 2,000 dollar watch, is a Bell and Ross Automatic Chronograph a good buy, or are there others out there? I'm looking to stay in the semi-dress/semi-sport category. Thanks!
Hey zkimmmmm,
If you really want a Bell & Ross I would suggest saving a little more and getting the Vintage 126 Chronograph (you can find a great review from aBlogtoRead here)

.
Or how about a Sinn 756? A great watch from a very good German watch brand.

.
Actually another awesome watch from Sinn would be the 6100 series Regulateur. Amazing watch, and if you shop around you should be able to pick one up within your budget!

.
I think they straddle the sports-luxury-dressy line quite well…
Your thoughts?
Anish :)
ambitionninspiration asked: which watch do you wear regularly?
Mainly the Ulysse Nardin

Followed by the Vacheron Constantin

But I tend to chop and change depending on what I’m wearing/where I’m going :)
Anonymous asked: Hello Sir, may I request your advice in choosing a women's timepiece for my wife. She is turning 30 & just found out that she is pregnant with our 1st child.. It is a very exciting time & I'd like to celebrate with something nice. Any guidance is greatly appreciated. Range is very wide: 500 -1200 USD.
Hello and congratulations Anon!
Having put some thought into it, I would probably recommend a Longines Prima Luna. They are very elegant and available in a couple of differing sizes so you’ve got the option of something small or slightly bigger for her should she prefer.
The starting list price is somewhere around $700, and it’s available with either a quartz or automatic movement.

Let me know your thoughts..?
Thanks,
Anish
2dimensional asked: I enjoy your blog and check it on a daily. Was wondering what color scheme Nato band should be mated with a 2 tone SS/Gold Submariner?? Ditto for a 1972 Speedmaster Professional MK2, do you think an Olive Green Nato band would work well?? Thanks in advance.
Hey 2dimensional,
What colour dial and bezel have you got on your 2 tone sub? black, blue or silver (serti)? I would say match the NATO strap with the dial colour and just get a solid colour strap. The striped NATO won’t look as good imo…

.
.
The trick is to actually make sure the buckle and hardware is gold instead of steel ;) Here is a pic of what I feel is a much better combination, only thing that would complete the look would be the gold hardware.

.
Gold hardware (I can’t find an example with a 2 tone sub, but you get the idea :) )

.
.
With regards to the Speedmaster, olive and black work very well together so that’s a good choice! Great thing is that because the bands are like $15 each you can buy a few and swap them around whenever you feel like it.
.
Thanks for the questions, and let me know if that helps?
Cheers,
Anish
Anonymous asked: Nevermind i'll find someone like youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu i wish nothing but the best, for youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

kiss-me-karma asked: How do you know so much about watches? :O
Because I am the guy walking past Homers car :(
Serious answer: I’ve worked in the watch industry for over 10 years now :)

zkimmmmm asked: Hey I have the Rolex Submariner 50th Anniversary with the green bezel. I'm looking for a NATO strap that would match best. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Just walk around strapped like this hollering “What’s Gucci my ni***” in your best Kanye West voice

Either that or a black and green striped version like this for $12?
Any good?

Anonymous asked: What do you do for a living?
I’m a lion tamer that works with various watch brands in his spare time :)
danielkn asked: Hello! Asked this on your facebook, but I guess you like tumblr a bit better. Just wondering, I've got a couple cheapie watches (I'm a university music student - musician AND university student = very poor) , a parnis portuguese-y watch, and a knockoff Big Pilot. I'm lookin to get some brown straps for them, but I can't afford the $150+ straps you recommended to an Ask-er a while back. Anything a little more accessible?
Hey mate,
Sorry i didn’t get back to you earlier!
How about something like this from Crown & Buckle for $35? (link to strap)

.
Any good?
Cheers,
Anish
Anonymous asked: how to get chocolate syrup stain off of diamond encrusted hublot? was eating sundae split and got chocolate syrup on watch it dried now some syrup is deep in between diamonds. how to fix it for me please?
F*ck it, burn the watch and buy a new one, who’s got time to clean chocolate syrup?!
*Serious answer - Take it to a watch repairer that you trust to do good work. They will take the movement and dial out of the watch and place the case and bracelet in an ultrasonic tank. The tank vibrates at a certain frequency enabling the cleaning agents (which are safe to use on the watch) to get all that lovely chocolate goo out of there.
The watchmaker will then dry the case fully before re-assembling your watch. You could send it back to Hublot for them to do, but expect to pay 10x more (unless you are a very good customer of theirs…even then, if they didn’t set the diamonds then they will not touch the watch regardless).
.
Thanks :)

corvettecid asked: I'm graduating soon and want a timepiece that shows I am successful and ambitious. I don't have a ton of money but want something decent that I can wear as my primary watch. I really like the Tag Carrera CV2014 BA0794 but am wondering if I should hold out for a few years and buy something like a Rolex Dayjust or Daytona. I really don't want to spend much more than $2000 so the Rolexs are double and triple my budget. Ask Men's watch snob suggests that anything priced under 5K is junk is this true
Hi corvettecid,
$2000 is a very healthy budget for a watch, and the TAG you are looking at is a great buy (though it does retail for significantly more than $2000, unless you are buying used?).
The CV2010 is also a good alternative if you want the watch to be a bit dressier without the red accents, though I suspect those are what drew you to that particular model in the first place!
TAG Carrera CV2014

.
.
Some other watches I could suggest would be models such as the Master Collection Chronograph from Longines, or the Tangente from NOMOS if you want something dressier - they are excellent value for money, and all their models use in-house movements!
.
Longines Master Collection Chronograph

.
NOMOS Tangente

.
See a Rolex will hold it’s value better than most brands other brands, there is no denying that. However as you don’t want to go too far over budget I would suggest that the only model you could look to get anywhere near $2k would be a stainless steel Datejust. Not a bad choice by any means, but when spending that sort of money wouldn’t it be better to buy something you really love!?!
.
For me, if I were looking to spend between $2k-$3k my wallet would drag me fairly aggressively to a MeisterSinger Singular. I love the 1 handed time display and minimal chronograph!

.

.
With regards to AskMen’s comments about watches under $5k being junk, I suspect it was said with a hint of tongue-in-cheek. There are many brands out there such as Jorg Schauer, Grand Seiko, Marice de Mauriac, Hamilton, Girard Perregaux, Zenith and even Jaeger LeCoultre that have great watches available under the $5k mark.
.
I hope that helps you somewhat, and please let me know if I can help further.
Thanks,
Anish
